I am beyond excited to have been asked by Stencil Girl to come back for a second guest blog post which is featured on StencilGirl Talk today! It's rare that ceramics gets any love in the world of mixed media so the fact that I was able to share the projects I made using their amazing stencils is extra special. Hop on over and take a look at my newest post! I wrote out step by step instructions on how to make the project below complete with photos of each step. I hope it inspires you to try painting your own ceramic pieces!
Here's the link to the post...
And in case you missed it, here's the link to my first post as a guest designer for StencilGirl.

Get your Zen on with me for a very relaxing evening where I demonstrate how to turn a simple watercolor-like background into a unique work of art using Designer Liners. The project is loosely based on the Zentangle, but takes it several steps further to create a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art). Learn tips and tricks on using Designer Liners, and hear fun facts about the Zentangle that may surprise you. Hope to see you there!
And in case you've missed my past webinars, they are now available to purchase from the iFiredArts Digital store. You can check them out here!

As you probably already know, I love making mixed media art and am always trying to incorporate the techniques I use for making it into my ceramic pieces. One of my favorite tools to use are stencils, and StencilGirl has an amazing selection of different designs. The gals over at StencilGirl caught wind of my using their products in designing my ceramic art and asked me if I wanted to be a guest designer for them. Of course I said yes! I was honored to have been asked and had a blast designing projects and writing about them for their blog, StencilGirl Talk.
Stop by and check out my post on the StencilGirl blog! I hope it inspires you to try your hand at painting ceramics!

I am excited to announce that I'll be teaching 2 ceramics classes at Art Unraveled this year! I'm so happy that this amazing art form is finding a place in today's mixed media art retreats. It certainly deserves to! If you're in the Phoenix area, or are planning on being there the first week of August, come take a class with me!
9:00 - 12:00 Tuesday August 4th
Don’t worry, you won’t need to be bailed out of jail if you take this class…Instead, you’ll be painting a mug that’s a snapshot of you! You’ll take images of symbols that describe you and combine them all onto a 16 oz clay mug. You’ll also learn about the art of ceramics and how you can continue making ceramics at home without investing a lot of money into expensive equipment. Your finished project will be fired off campus and returned to you 1-2 days after class. Your mug will be food safe so you can use it for your favorite beverage!
1:30 - 4:30 Tuesday August 4th
Zen Inspired Doodles on Clay Canvases
In this class, we’ll learn how to make zen inspired doodles on a three dimensional clay canvas! In the past it has been difficult to achieve thin lines on ceramics, but I’ll show you how to use a product that makes it easy. We’ll first use a watercolor type product to create a background, then we’ll do our doodling. You can make repeating patterns, write words, and/or draw pictures. The resulting project will be something you’ll be proud to display on the wall or with a plate stand. Your project will be fired off campus and returned to you 1-2 days after class.
Note: This is not a Zentangle class…the focus is more on using the ceramic products than it is on the patterns drawn. If you have taken a Zentangle class from a CZT, bring your knowledge and feel free to apply it to your project!

My friend Stuart, who graciously provided accommodations and acted as my tour guide when I visited the UK last year, is raising money for Douglas Macmillan Hospice (Dougie Mac) by staying dry - meaning not drinking any alcohol - for the whole month of January. This is no small feat! Anyone who knows Stuart knows that he can usually be found at the local pub running up his tab or in his living room with a case of wine. To support him on this seemingly impossible quest, I have created a one-of-a-kind commemorative ceramic painting titled 'It's A Beautiful Day to Stay Dry' which features Stuart under an umbrella staying dry. The painting was done on a ceramic 8 x 10 inch canvas using the finest glaze products from Mayco. It can be displayed by placing the piece in a plate stand (not included) or by hanging it on the wall. The current retail value of the piece is approximately 100 US smackers but is sure to be worth millions once I die and become famous. Place your bid now for this important piece of world history and help Stuart achieve his fundraising goals! All proceeds go to Douglas Macmillan Hospice.
Please visit Stuart's fundraising page to make a donation to this great cause.
